I Wish Someone In This House Would Get a Record Deal So I Could Afford To Remodel My Kitchen

Somehow, in between working a full time job, taking out the trash, getting the kids ready for school and keeping his wife happy, my husband managed to record a CD! Rigel and his band, Nine2Midnight, spent countless hours and subjected themselves to hundreds of beers to get some of their songs onto vinyl (or plastic, or whatever CDs are made out of. Whalebone? The ashes of dead rock stars?)

kitchen one by rotor

I love stuff like this: Kitchen One is a project by Lionel Devlieger in collaboration with Eric Van den Broucke. The paneling of the cupboards for this kitchen is made out of laser-cut plywood, an industrial leftover from a company that specialized in die-cutting cardboard for the packaging of luxury-goods. The wooden boards were used as punching-plates for punching out the shape of unfolded boxes from large sheets of cardboard. They had to extract the razor-sharp knives from the slits before being able to saw the boards. See more photos at the site: Rotor

Is Your Kitchen Designer "Too Busy?"

I’m busy these days. I feel it. My guess is that design pros sort of get that "busy feeling" when business is, let’s say, better than normal, obviously. Multiple deadlines is also an obvious giveaway.  For me, it’s here. The thing is, my business is a roller coaster, and one where you don’t necessarily see the ups and downs from a distance…the roller coaster is enclosed in a dark tunnel! It all has to do with construction schedules, town approvals, architects’ schedules, all of which is beyond my control. "It" has a life of its own and the big rolling ball sort of scoops me up when just barely in sight! For those of you who are looking to do a kitchen renovation, you may want to ask the kitchen designer of your choice what her/his schedule looks like down the road and what it is like now. If they can predict, and to a certain point, a short distance, a designer can. Until that schedule goes to the dogs by the a) architect b) town c) contrac
