Microwave Granola To The Rescue…The Fastest Gift From The Kitchen

At 9 am one day last week, I realized that I needed some baked goods… FAST. No time for cookies, banana breads or even muffins. So I turned to my world famous Granola. Regis and Kelly were on in the background and I had 4 batches made before host chat was over. Well, not exactly, but I WAS able to leave the kitchen well before RR came on at 10. Plan to make multiple batches, because this is so good. Don’t scoff because this is a microwave recipe. I’d put it against the finest baked granola. AND there is no extra fat (other than the considerable amount in the nuts and the tiny amount in the wheatgerm). The microwave part is both good and bad. It’s good because it’s so fast. The bad part is that it’s tricky to cook more than one recipe at a time. So for maximum efficiency, I PREPARE 4 batches at once, but COOK them one right after the other. To cook 4 batches really quickly, I toast all the nuts together in a 9 by 13 glass baking dish - about 3ish minutes on high. Meanwhile, I meas

The Kitchen Holidays

Is it the Holiday spirit? Yes, I’m sure it is, in part, that makes me so positive about, well, nearly everything today. I just finished watching Celine Dion sing The Christmas Song, which was done with such beautiful restraint and quietness (granted, for a change!) Lovely. Made me think of my experiences today and how it relates to none other than my kitchen design business. It began with a trip to the dentist (again.) This time it was an hour and a half visit, and again, it was a piece of cake. But, a little twitch on my part, and he was all over it…"do you feel any pain?" "everything ok?" "just tell me" all of which made me feel very, cared for, I suppose. Nice feeling. A little chatting, pleasantries, just nice all around. Then, I went to my project (wait till you see THIS ONE-not the one below) and, with four different tradespeople there, plus the clients, everyone was happy, cooperative, collaborative, relaxed, all really good stuff that someti

The term “coffee machine” refers to any device used to turn grinds into that most favored of stimulants: coffee. Kitchen Nightmare’s Showed Me Business

If you have not watched Gordon Ramsey’s new series “Kitchen Nightmare” you should, especially if you are an entrepreneur. This new series is all about running a business and not cleaning up your kitchen or cooking good food - well part of it does but the concept is great. The show concentrates on running a business and how to get your audience. I learned a lot from the 10 episodes then creating a business and how to properly promote. The emphasis on running a business and not running a kitchen is what kind of caught my attention. I picked up the main concept of the show by just listening Ramsey saying repeatedly “treat it like a business.” This applies to anything even blogging and internet marketing. Ramsey does not talk to the cooks about how they cook but takes a look at the managerial and location of the restaurant. Ramsey even profiles the town or city the restaurant is located in. This shows a lot of entrepreneurial skills. Ramsey checks the competit

When your kitchen cabinets need a makeover…

While remodeling your kitchen, install only the essential cabinets, so you can spend on quality rather than quantity. Look for durability, and specify plywood panels rather than particleboard. Laminate is economical but still can look classy in a patterned finish or trimmed with wood edging. You should put your money into the hardest-working and most permanent features of the kitchen, especially
