Metal Kitchen Cabinets?

As some of you know, we need to replace our kitchen fairly urgently. The wood is rotting, there isn’t enough storage space, and just before Rosh Hashanah our kitchen sink collapsed.Hopefully we are getting most of a new (for us) kitchen from some friends who are redoing their appartment and getting rid of the kitchen that was there.I have been asked whether I would put metal cabinets in my kitchen, instead of the traditional wooden ones. I know that metal storage units are usually found in garages, not kitchens, but they certainly do have many advantages. They are really strong and come in many colors or in finishes like stainless steel. They won’t go rotten, and most of all they look REALLY funky. Check out these metal cabinets from the Car Garage Guy.Our house would certainly be the snazziest one in the building if we put in some of those cabinets. (Whether my wife would agree is an entirely different matter). So in short, the answer is, YES, I would put metal cabinets in my kitchen.

Kitchen Wallpaper - A Guide

I talked with my blogging buddy, Linda, from Surroundings about wallpaper in the kitchen (wallpaper is BACK…big, bold, patterns and all.)  As the second part of our two posts on the subject, Linda adds some thoughts for you here. Linda is the owner of Chameleon Interiors, a design firm near Boston. Linda’s been widely covered in the media, including on WHDH’s "Room For Improvement." I’m a frequent visitor to her blog, and always interested in Linda’s take on interiors. "Hi Susan, I’ve been loving all your recent posts on white kitchens - just fabulous! After the heaviness of the 70s, the overdone 80s and the granite/stainless monsters of the 90’s, the sleekness of simpler white kitchens just feels so fresh and invigorating! One thing I’ve noticed - and love - is the use of bolder, graphic wallpapers in kitchens. The right graphic can really enhance a blank wall in the kitchen - really balancing the space. I think the trick, however, is getting the sca

#832: Crying Over Everything But The Kitchen Sink

This is one classy joint.Lately, I have become much more aware of the stress I have been under since the beginning of the year. The Palinode and I have had to face a couple of fairly overwhelming health issues (my cervical cancer and subsequent hysterectomy and now his broken back and awaiting surgery), and that was coupled with job changes, so it would come as no surprise to anyone that I might be feeling some stress. It certainly comes as no surprise to me. What is strange, though, is that it took this long for me to lose my shit about it.I love rundown streets.I have always been someone who overlooks my own stress. Chronic headaches? I must be drinking too much coffee. Moody and short-tempered? I must not be eating properly. Only sleeping three or four hours a night? It must be a combination of the coffee and the food. For some reason, I have convinced myself that I am a calm person, and will deny the obvious until I cannot help but fold in on myself and, as I said before, l

Antique Kitchen Cabinetry - Get The Look

I saw this gorgeous image from one of my VERY favorite blogs, The Reclaimed Home, and I immediately knew I have much to say about it. For the moment, enjoy this beautiful kitchen. Later today, when things calm down in my schedule, I’ll be back to talk about it in more detail. I’m crazy about this look (and it’s not even my style.) More later…what do you think of this kitchen? Safari in my laptop refuses to link. Please use this address until I can correct the link, later. You’ll be glad you did, what a great blog this is, lots of spirit! http://reclaimedhome.com/?p=405

White Kitchen, White Home

Not only is the kitchen white, but most of the home is white too. With accents, texture and little bits of color, it adds up to a gorgeous look. The home we see, today, is my cousin’s home, just down the road from the Queen’s summer castle in Denmark! So, yes, we have another white Scandinavian kitchen…we cannot have too many, I think. Enjoy the tour of my cousin’s home. She has two small children, and the woman you see in one of the images is her mother, preparing dinner. Oh, the house is 150 years old. Please enjoy this slide show and tell me what you think!

Kitchen Ventilation - Copper Hoods

I received this really cute email yesterday from an artisan who makes hand crafted copper hoods. Here it is: "Hello, I am writing this letter in regards to a product I make that I think you might be interested in, Copper hood ranges, at the moment, I make them in my spare time but I would like to eventually make it a full time job, there a few different styles I can make and I attached a couple pictures.  By trade I am a welder and I learned how to make and design them while working for a company in Alberta Canada, I try to offer the the best possible price."The fabricator said he works only with design professionals because there are so many critical dimensions involved into custom making a hood, including issues with shape and proportion. Pairing a hood with the proper ventilation appliance becomes a whole separate challenge as well, in terms of dimensions, cfms, ducting options, and more. Likewise, he prefers to communicate with a design professional on finishes, mate
