Kitchen Design Notes - What I’m Working On Now

Aside from going stark raving crazy, getting ready to go on my vacation to Denmark, otherwise known by my family as the Motherland, I thought I’d share with you a few projects that I’m working on. If you recognize yourself here, dear clients, not to worry, your names and addresses will never be sold to third parties.   ;-)It’s what keeps me going…the unique-ness of people. I absolutely love discovering, and helping to transform, my clients’ lifestyles in that most important environment…one’s home. Here’s a peek at some random details and observations, and perhaps, goals, of four in the collection of projects I’m working on. The R Family: This kitchen will be first and foremost a Kosher kitchen. A very large kitchen, it is open to the family room, with a focus on views of the park-like rear yard as well. We will have a very large cooking area, and I think we will be exploring a huge hood, perhaps something sort of built in, like the idea of some of these French coun

Hell’s Kitchen Finale

Well, like millions of other folks, I sat and watched the finale of Hell’s Kitchen this past Monday night.  The reality food show, which stars the short tempered Chef Gordon Ramsay, finished its 3rd season in typical style.  The two finalists were Bonnie Muirhead (a personal chef/nanny from Los Angeles, CA) and Rock Harper (an executive chef from Spotsylvania, VA).  As usual, the Fox Network style of "emotional manipulation" carried the day!  Many of us viewers had come to dislike the whining and spoiled childlike ramblings of Miss Bonnie and instead preferred the steadfast "everything-for-my-family" ethos of Rock.  Midway through the finale, I think they posted a stat that 74% of the people, who had text voted for their favorite, had chosen chosen Rock as the one to win the chance to chef a new restaurant in Las Vegas.  Poor misunderstood Bonnie!Read More…

How a Simple Kitchen Product Revitalized My Hair in 30 Minutes

Some years ago I suddenly developed really greasy hair. I’m not sure how it happened but it coincided with me taking Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) from Superdrug. I frantically tried to wash the grease out but to no avail. It only seemed to make matters worse! Would Designer Shampoo Work? I couldn’t go around wearing a hat for the rest of my life so decided to take a trip into town and bought, at great expense, a detox shampoo from Aveda. I was convinced it would work, it’s full of natural ingredients and is considerably more expensive than shampoos from the supermarket after all…. As soon as I got home I rushed upstairs to the bathroom and applied the shampoo, eagerly awaiting the results. I’ve always had really nice hair, even if I do say so myself. I couldn’t believe it… my hair still looked as if I’d dunked it into a deep fat fryer! Would I ever have beautiful hair again?? What Would We Do Without The Internet? Out of sheer d

How Hell’s Kitchen Season Finale was Inspirational

Last night on Hell’s Kitchen the two chefs Bonnie and Rock went head to head to compete to become the next head chef at the Green Valley Resort. This specific episode was pretty inspirational as in the fact Rock won and was rewarded to be head chef. During the episodes Rock was always positive and always believed in himself and his family. Rock was so solid in himself, he truly believed and has self trust he is going to win. He always kept saying t himself he has won I am going to win. This brings me back to a book review I did on Rich Beyond my Wildest Dream. Using the forces of nature and the universe you can get anything you want as long as you are positive without greed. Rock showed a great example of this through out the season, using him as an example, either correcting himself, believing in himself, and apologizing for himself. Rock I can admit has had an attitude problem and brought it out several times during the season. Blamed Chef Ramsey for poor decision making, talke

Hell’s Kitchen Finale?

Update: Well, it was a foregone conclusion. Rock won. Except for his temper, he was the best of the lot. Any other decision for top chef was unacceptable. Congratulations, Maryland chef. Too bad you were preempted in your own cable region for some bogus preseason football competition. No way I can watch tonight’s finale. I’m stuck in Baltimore. A Ravens pre-season football skirmish has pre-empted the final show on the local FOX Channel. I won’t find out until 1 a.m. who will win:Cute Bonnie-who-should-not-be-in-the-finale-no-matterhow-hard-Ramsay-tries-to-defend-his-STUPID-decision (he claims she has a great palate),or Rock, who should have competed against Jen.My prediction? For the sake of the longevity of this show - Rock. I’ll stay up late to find out who won. But Growwwllll. Football in August? Sacrilege. Here are some video outtakes of tonight’s show.

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry - Draper DBS

I’m pleased, and very excited, to announce a new line of cabinetry that I have recently welcomed into my design practice. The cabinetry is Draper DBS, located in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, a region of Pennsylvania with a rich tradition of fine cabinet making. I went to the factory a couple of months back. There is no direct highway to the factory. It’s literally over the river and through the woods! One is forced to slow way down (not so easy for me) to go over the covered bridge, through the wonderful village called Frenchtown, up and over big, winding, hills, and to stop and buy a quart of fresh picked strawberries at the local farm. Slow down, I did. But, I happily digress. I wanted a line of cabinetry for kitchens (and other rooms) that was different, even exciting, yes, I’d say exciting is a good word. I wanted a line rich with authenticity and character. A line with depth, in terms of fine craftsmanship and creative thinking. I found it. I’m very happy to have Desire To Inspire

The Kitchen I Want…

Since the beginning of our marriage we always knew we weren’t ready to settle and put roots down anywhere. We’ve always been open to any relocation offers and promotions that came our way. During these years we’ve lived all over the country, and it’s only in the past 3 years that we’ve talked about finally settling somewhere for our next move. One of the most important issues in putting down

Kitchen Remodeling Project Management and Technology

I love technology, I always have. I’m not an expert, but I have a natural curiosity for many technological things…gadgets first and foremost, software, any sort of productivity tool. I think of these tools not only as time saving but as fun, and fun is always good, especially when you’re in the kitchen remodeling business, or even worse, UNDERGOING a kitchen remodeling! So, I’d like to share a few productivity tools that I’m using that you could find useful too, I’m sure. Backpack -  You’re a homeowner and you’re doing a kitchen renovation. With backpack, also called backpackit, you have pages in which you can put information, accessible anywhere, since it’s web based, and it’s all in one convenient spot. So, you may want a page for your kitchen cabinetry, a page for your countertops, a page for your sink, your faucet, even a page for your designer and contractor. Well, I can think of a whole lot of "pages" you’d need during the course of a remodel. It’
